If you’re reading this, there’s a good chance you’re thinking about making a change—and that’s a big deal. Drug addiction is tough, and deciding to seek help is one of the bravest steps you can take. Once you’ve made that decision, though, you might be wondering which type of recovery program is right for you.
At Alvarado Parkway Institute, located in San Diego, we offer several levels of care for drug addiction treatment. Each one is designed to meet you where you are and support you as you move forward in your journey. We’re here for you, whether you need full-time support or just a little help managing day-to-day challenges.
Types of Recovery Programs at Alvarado Parkway Institute
Recovery doesn’t look the same for everyone. Some people need to hit the pause button completely and focus on healing. Others can begin their recovery while still managing work, school, or family responsibilities. Alvarado Parkway Institute offers a variety of programs, including inpatient, partial hospitalization (PHP), and outpatient care, to accommodate each person’s needs.
Each of these programs is built around proven treatment methods like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), group therapy, and more. The difference lies in the level of structure and intensity so you can find the right fit for your stage of recovery.
Inpatient/Residential Programs: Best for Severe Addiction
If your addiction feels overwhelming or dangerous, or if you’ve tried to quit before and relapsed, our inpatient program might be the best place to start.
With inpatient treatment, you’ll stay at our facility 24/7. That means round-the-clock medical support, daily structure, and a safe environment free from outside triggers. You’ll be surrounded by a care team that understands what you’re going through and can help guide you through detox, manage withdrawal symptoms, and build a foundation for long-term recovery.
When your addiction feels completely out of control, having a place where you can slow down, breathe, and focus solely on your health is exactly what you need.
Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP): Highly Structured Support
If you don’t need 24-hour supervision but still need a high level of support, our partial hospitalization program might be the right fit for you.
In PHP, you’ll spend most of your day—from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.—in structured therapy sessions, skill-building workshops, and group support. Then, at night, you return to the comfort of your own home. It’s an ideal balance for people who are medically stable but still need help developing healthy coping strategies and staying on track in their recovery.
PHP offers the best of both worlds. It provides the intensity of inpatient care without the overnight stay. You’ll still work closely with therapists, psychiatrists, and peers who are walking similar paths—and you’ll have the space to begin rebuilding your life outside of treatment, one step at a time.
Outpatient Programs: Flexibility for Those Who Need It
Maybe you’ve already done some serious work in your recovery, and your addiction is less severe but still disruptive. If that’s the case, our outpatient program could be exactly what you’re looking for.
Outpatient care allows you to attend therapy and treatment sessions during the week while continuing to live at home. Our clients can attend IOP sessions up to three times a week for three hours in the morning or afternoon. This level of care is ideal if you have a strong support system in place or if you need to keep up with work, school, or family commitments while you recover. For those who can’t attend daytime sessions, we offer an evening program at our La Mesa location.
In an IOP, you’ll still have access to counseling, group therapy, and medical support, but with the flexibility to fit treatment into your schedule instead of putting everything on hold.
Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)
For many people, recovery is about more than willpower. Medication-assisted treatment can aid the process of breaking free from drug addiction.
MAT uses FDA-approved medications to help ease withdrawal symptoms and reduce cravings. This allows you the opportunity to focus on addressing the roots of your addiction. These medications aren’t a “quick fix” or a crutch, but they can greatly support your recovery when used alongside therapy and counseling.
At Alvarado Parkway Institute, we integrate MAT into our treatment plans when it’s appropriate and will give our clients the best chance at long-term success. If you’ve tried to quit before and felt overwhelmed by the physical or emotional toll, MAT might be the missing piece of the puzzle for you.
Aftercare Services
Staying sober and healthy long-term often depends on what happens after formal treatment ends. That’s why we offer weekly aftercare to everyone who has completed our programs.
We’ll help you build a plan for staying connected, accountable, and supported. Whether that means continued therapy, joining a support group, or just having a trusted point of contact at our treatment center, we’re committed to walking with you for the long haul.
We also offer family and friends resources for loved ones who are helping you on your journey.
How to Choose the Right Addiction Recovery Program for You
When trying to determine which program is best for you, start by asking yourself a few questions:
- How severe is your addiction?
- Have you tried to quit before, and if so, what happened?
- Do you have support at home from family or friends?
- Can you take time away from work or other responsibilities?
- What are your goals for recovery?
Our team is here to help you assess your situation and match you with the right level of care. After listening to your story and evaluating your needs, we’ll work with you to build a treatment plan that sets you up for success.
