Catherine M. Eckl, LCSW

Raised in a small town in northwest Alabama, Catherine is a graduate of the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa receiving a Bachelor of Science in Social Welfare with an emphasis in Gerontology. During her time as an undergraduate at the U of A, she was selected to participate in the National Student Exchange Program which led her to study at the University of Nevada, Reno.  Her experience in Reno and the valuable connections she made with Social Work professors there encouraged Catherine to pursue graduate studies in San Diego. She obtained a Master of Science in Social Work degree from San Diego State University in 1982 and was licensed as a Clinical Social Worker two years later. 

Catherine has served in a variety of roles throughout her career in psychiatry, both in inpatient and outpatient settings as well as long term residential care facilities and in public sector social work.  She has held multiple executive level positions including Chief Operations Officer of a free-standing psychiatric facility and Hospital Administrator.   Catherine came to API in 2005 first in a consulting role and later as a full time employee working to oversee the outpatient programs.  She serves as an elected Board Member of the Association for Ambulatory Behavioral Healthcare and works to influence public policy related to Ambulatory Behavioral Health.

Her skill as a leader is driven by her determination to provide quality care to patients experiencing mental health issues.  She lives by the principle of placing clients first.

Catherine married a native San Diegan and has two adult children.  She and her husband enjoy full custody of two wonderful grand – dogs; a Labrador Retriever and a Maltese-Poodle mix. Catherine enjoys vacationing in tropical locales, entertaining friends, and traveling to Alabama to visit with family.
