Is An Evening Therapy Program Right For Me?

in Blog, Treatment

An evening therapy program—often found under the umbrella of intensive outpatient programs (IOPs)—can be a highly beneficial treatment method for many mental health patients.

It’s one of a few different programs designed to support individuals with their personal mental health, particularly if they require greater flexibility.

Is a program like this for me? Many patients might ask that question. This guide is designed to help those who might be considering such a program understand what it is and how it can serve as a potential benefit to them.

What is an Evening Therapy Program?

An evening therapy program is considered more than just a weekly AA meeting. It’s often more intensive than AA, purely because it’s a form of an intensive outpatient program.

Leaders who conduct evening therapy programs are typically those who have also struggled with binge patterns or substance abuse. They’ve been specifically chosen to help patients in attendance better manage their problems and provide them with an additional measure of support.

Evening therapy programs are an effective option for those who struggle with binge-pattern problems or substance use disorders and don’t require inpatient or residential treatment. It offers greater versatility to those who would benefit from an outpatient program yet don’t have time (due to schooling, work, or familial responsibilities) for an afternoon program.

Who is a Good Fit for an Evening Therapy Program?

If you’re struggling with a busy lifestyle and work schedule throughout the day, an evening therapy program might be a suitable alternative. For those who are occupied with parenthood or other commitments during the day, this program offers patients the help they need while fulfilling their daily responsibilities.

Do you Have any Requirements or Guidelines for People Considering IOP?

For our outpatient program, whether in the afternoon or in the evening, here are some guidelines to consider when deciding if it’s right for you.

Mild or Moderate Symptoms

Mild or moderate symptoms are appropriate for an evening therapy program. If a patient has more severe symptoms that require the constant monitoring of a physician, inpatient or residential treatment may be required instead.

Ability to Function Independently

With evening therapy programs allowing the patients to come and go, they must be able to function independently. That means still being able to accomplish their daily responsibilities without an addiction or mental illness limiting their ability to do so.

For those who may struggle to function independently when it comes to basic day-to-day activities, they might find that an inpatient program is better suited for their needs.

A Willingness to Implement What They Learn into Real-Life Situations

Anyone who opts into a program wants it to be effective, but that also requires work being done by the patient outside of the program as well. Demonstrating a willingness to implement what they’ve learned through the program during real-life situations is essential.
